Standard Safety and Provision of Cess Paths

Standard Safety and Provision of Cess Paths

Letter sent to all Branches, Regional Councils and Regional Offices:- 6 November 2008

Concern has been raised again about the state and provision of cess paths. Some time ago Network Rail set up the Safety Improvement Team (and allocated funds) who were discharged with identifying problem areas and ensuring that they were tended to. Anecdottaly, it would appear that the team has not been carrying out its functions. However, I need firm evidence in the form of photographs and hazard reports before I can challenge Network Rail on their failure to maintain safe access points and walking routes.

With this is mind, I am asking all branches to be vigilant and take photographs of untended areas or submit hazard reports to the relevant managers, but to also retain copies and send to Health and Safety section at Unity House.

Please bring this circular to the attention of your members and thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Yours Sincerely

Bob Crow

General Secretary
