Tebay Tragedy – MPs sign up to EDM 793 26.02.09

BY 25 February 2009 25 MPs had signed up to EDM 793 which was tabled by Morecambe and Lunesdale MP Geraldine Smith – a new member of the RMT Parliamentary Group – The EDM commemorates the 5 anniversary of the Tebay Tragedy when four RMT members were killed by a run away trolley that ploughed into their worksite.

The EDM also expresses its serious concern about the lack of effective protection for railway infrastructure work sites – five years after the tragedy and the fact that there have been 16 recorded other runaways since then.

Craig Johnston – the RMT General Grades Council of Executive member for the Manchester and the North West of England has written to Northern MPs asking them to sign the EDM.
